Mize Sparkles in 4-0 Shutout Thursday, August 1st , 2024 Casey Mize of the Nashville Sounds was on top of his game. The 27-year-old tantalized the Durham Bulls with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0. "He had the changeup working," Durham manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Nashville hurler had 13 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort. Mize told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league." "If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said. To date Mize is 7-10 in 22 starts with a 3.33 ERA and has 165 strikeouts in 154 innings. |
