Tuesday, August 27th , 2024
Gwinnett Stripers third baseman Mark Vientos put on a dazzling display of power at Durham Bulls Athletic Park against the Durham Bulls. In the 5-3 Stripers victory, Vientos penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts.
"He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Durham manager said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well."
Along with his three home runs, the 24-year-old had 3 hits in 7 at-bats, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Vientos said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today."
Mark Vientos struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Tejay Antone in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Tejay Antone in the 6th, struck out in the 8th, flied out in the 11th, flied out in the 13th and hit a two-run home run off William Woods in the 15th.
This season, Vientos is batting .306 with 21 home runs.
