Red-Hot Velazquez Scorches Indians Tuesday, August 19th , 2025 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-7 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Ralphy Velazquez, it came around today. The 20-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Nat Bailey Stadium to pace the 8-7 Vancouver Canadians victory over the Spokane Indians. Spokane skipper told reporters in the press room that "Velazquez deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Velazquez hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Ralphy Velazquez singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, singled in the 9th, grounded out in the 11th, walked in the 13th and hit a solo-shot off Jim Unknown in the 15th. For the season, Velazquez has hit .352 with 14 home runs and 92 RBIs. He has played in 86 games and scored 85 times. |
