High-A West Crowns Everett's Hughes Saturday, September 30th , 2023 It was a glorious year for Gabriel Hughes of the Everett AquaSox. He finished the season with 14 victories and only 6 losses, with an impressive 2.59 ERA. The talented AquaSox pitcher started 29 games and struck out 154 batters in 170.1 innings and won the High-A West Outstanding Pitcher Award. "It means a lot," Hughes said. "I hadn't really had a chance to sit down and think about it yet. It feels good right now. I can't really put it into words, but I'm sure later on tonight when I have a chance to sit down with my family and think about it, I'll have some words for it. But right now, I'm just happy that it happened this year." He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Bubba Chandler of the Spokane Indians finished second in voting, while Frank Mozzicato of the Everett AquaSox finished third.
