Kernels Move on to Round 2 Sunday, September 21st , 2025 Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the High-A Central Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different. The Cedar Rapids Kernels swept aside the Beloit Snappers to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 14-3 score at Harry C. Pohlman Field. The series MVP was center fielder Jim Unknown, who hit .600 with a .667 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 2 runs. "We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it." The Cedar Rapids Kernels don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the West Michigan Whitecaps - Great Lakes Loons series. West Michigan leads the series 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes. |
