Olson Helps New York Cruise to 11-0 Win
|
The New York Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 11-0, at Yankee Stadium today. Leading the charge for New York was first baseman Matt Olson. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Lance Lynn, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-1. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 1 hits and no runs, while striking out 11 and walking 0. The Guardians, now 7-24, continue their inauspicious start.
With New York leading 8-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Olson came up to bat against Cleveland pitcher Junior Fernandez. Olson hit a fastball to right for a 3-run home run. His 12th home run of the season put the Yankees on top, 11-0.
"We'll keep our chins up and get ready for the next game," said losing manager Paul B.
