Reds 5-3 Winners Versus Washington
|
The inspired effort of Washington shortstop Paul DeJong was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-3, to the Cincinnati Reds. DeJong went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Taj Bradley, who is tied for 7th in the NL in quality starts with 4, was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Picking up the save was Felix Bautista, his 9th.
The Reds got a big at-bat from shortstop Romy Gonzalez. For the game, Gonzalez went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Cincinnati a 4-2 lead.
Gonzalez said his team "played with determination."
With the win, Cincinnati has a record of 17-16. Washington falls to 15-18.
