Padres Take Tight Tangle
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a sterling performance from pitcher Brant Hurter, but the San Diego Padres still prevailed, 4-3. Hurter threw 6.0 innings allowing 1 run. The winner in relief was Matt Strahm. He is now 1-0. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2 innings. Ryan Walker earned the save for San Diego, his 10th.
Jackson Chourio, who is the top prospect in the Padres organization, had a direct impact on the outcome. Chourio contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put San Diego up, 4-3.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Chourio, "one at-bat at a time."
Pittsburgh falls to 12-22.
