The Tampa Bay Rays went down to defeat to Matt Boyd and his New York teammates. The final score was 7-0, in favor of the Mets. Boyd got the win, improving to 1-3. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. He allowed no runs. The Mets, now 17-18, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.

Derek Hill had a big 3-run home run for the Mets in the top of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Tylor Megill and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 4-0.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said New York manager Craig K.
