Cubs Hold Off Pirates, 6-5
The Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates completed their game despite the rain.

Chicago starter Brandon Woodruff pitched well against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. The right-hander led his team to a win, 6-5. The winning pitcher was Woodruff, now 5-1. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 10. David Bednar, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save.

Jorge Mateo, the Chicago shortstop, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 6-4, Cubs. For the game, Mateo was 1-4.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Pittsburgh manager Jake S. "But we decided not to take it."

With the victory, the Cubs upped their record to 25-22.
