Nationals Lose By a Run at Philadelphia
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Citizens Bank Park. But fan favorite Austin Riley produced just enough offense to carry the Phillies past the Washington Nationals, 3-2. Riley was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Caleb Thielbar in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Max Scherzer took the loss. Josh Winckowski wrapped it up, recording his 1st save.
With Philadelphia trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Riley hit a fastball from Max Scherzer for a 2-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Phillies ahead, 3-2.
Philadelphia manager Jon C praised his team's "energy."
The win elevated the Phillies to 29-18.
