Athletics Pick Up 5-1 Win Against Houston
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Houston Astros, 5-1, in part because of designated hitter Colt Keith. Keith hit 2 home runs for the Athletics. Jordan Montgomery was the winner. Over 7 innings, he yielded 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. After today's action, Oakland sits at 25-24; Houston slips to 29-22.
The Astros had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Athletics going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old right fielder Kyle Tucker came to the plate. Tucker hit a solo home run on a 1-2 fastball from Houston hurler David Festa. It was Tucker's 9th home run of the year.
Keith attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
