Nationals Edge Giants, 8-7
The Washington Nationals weathered a fine game by San Francisco third baseman Manny Machado to upend the Giants, 8-7, at Nationals Park. Machado went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The winner was Michael Lorenzen in relief. His record improves to 1-4. Chris Martin took the loss. Today's win puts Washington at 25-28, while San Francisco falls to 26-26.

Paul DeJong drove in one run for Washington. The 31-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 7-7 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Chris Martin. It was his 34th RBI of the season.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said DeJong.
