Athletics Win, Move to Within 1 Game of World Series
|
The Oakland Athletics moved to within one game of the World Series, downing the visiting Detroit Tigers at Oakland Coliseum by a score of 4-2. Athletics right-hander George Kirby had a strong outing in which he threw 5.0 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Athletics a 3-0 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
In the bottom of the fourth, Oakland left fielder Pedro Leon had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Leon stroked a 2-run home run to left. It made the score 3-1, Oakland. For the game, he went 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Kirby told the Oakland Citizen.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Oakland Coliseum in Oakland.
