Athletics Clip White Sox, 7-6, in LCS Contest
|
The Oakland Athletics got a strong game from starter George Kirby, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Athletics took the 7-6 win over the Chicago White Sox in Game 5 of the League Championship Series in a 14th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Kirby. Kirby threw 5.0 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which allowed the Athletics to narrow their deficit to 2-3 in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 14th inning, when Oakland first baseman Elehuris Montero, facing Bryan Woo, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Athletics the 7-6 win.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Montero.
Game 6 is scheduled for Sunday at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago.
