Despite a great performance by Kansas City designated hitter Pete Alonso, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Royals by the score of 5-3 at Kauffman Stadium. Alonso was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the save was Julian Merryweather, his 4th. The Tigers improved their record to 42-17 by beating Kansas City.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Drew Waters? The Detroit right fielder had a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tigers on top, 4-2. For the game, Waters had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
