St. Louis Gets Another L
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies get after it.
Philadelphia parlayed a decent outing from starter Davis Martin into a solid win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The final score was 7-2. Martin yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 9-0.
William Contreras had a big run-scoring double for the Phillies in the bottom of the first inning. With Philadelphia leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 35-year old left-handed pitcher James Paxton and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Phillies ahead, 2-0.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Contreras said after the game.
With the win, Philadelphia raised its record to 36-23.
