Tigers Sunk by White Sox
|
Starting pitcher Robbie Ray gave the Chicago White Sox a rock-solid effort. The Brentwood, Tennessee native helped his team defeat the Detroit Tigers, 3-0, at Guaranteed Rate Field. Ray, now 3-3, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Aroldis Chapman earned the save for Chicago, his 12th of the year.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the eighth inning, but Nick Mears didn't flinch. With the bases loaded and Detroit trailing 1-0, Mears retired Meibrys Viloria to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Mears, with a wink.
With the win, Chicago has a record of 27-34. Detroit falls to 43-19.
