The Tampa Bay Rays spoiled a good performance by Texas catcher Gary Sanchez, bumping off Texas, 6-5, at Tropicana Field. Sanchez went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Tony Gonsolin. He tossed 86 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. The Rays improved their record to 22-39 with the win over Texas.

Tampa Bay second baseman Samad Taylor contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 39th hit of the season and put the Rays ahead, 6-3.
