Chapman, Pirates Wallop Phillies, 15-0
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates soundly defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 15-0, at PNC Park, with third baseman Matt Chapman a major reason why. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 and driving in 2 for Pittsburgh. Bailey Ober, the winner, is now 4-4. He struck out 9 and walked 1 over 7 innings, while allowing no runs on 3 hits. Pittsburgh is now 25-39, Philadelphia 41-22.
Tyler O'Neill had a big run-scoring double for the Pirates in the bottom of the third inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski and swatted a double to center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 2-0.
"That effort on our part," said losing manager Jon C, "stunk to high heaven."
