The Boston Red Sox were defeated, 4-3, by the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, even though Tanner Houck pitched well for Boston. Keegan Akin collected save number 6. New York goes to 25-39, Boston to 30-37.

Had Johnathan Rodriguez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Rodriguez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Yankees.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said New York manager Darrell S. "It's usually not just one thing."
