|
Lance McCullers pitched a gem to lead Kansas City to victory over the New York Yankees, 2-1. McCullers, now 4-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. Ryan Helsley earned the save for Kansas City.
Matt Chapman, who finished 3rd in the AL in extra base hits with 70 in 2021, chipped in a solo home run for Kansas City in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"Lance did a nice job," said Royals manager Jim H.
With the victory, the Royals upped their record to 38-33.
