Murphy Helps Red Sox Beat Phillies, 7-3
|
Boston and Philadelphia took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
The Boston Red Sox beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 7-3. Boston catcher Sean Murphy deserved the lion's share of the credit. Murphy went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Red Sox. Kyle Wright, who leads the AL in wins with 9, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts.
With Boston leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Murphy hit a fastball from Miles Mikolas for a grand slam home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 6-1.
"We'll enjoy this ride as long as it lasts," said Red Sox manager Chris L.
The winning streak has now reached 7 games for the Red Sox.
