The Kansas City Royals faced a tough opponent in Houston pitcher Jacob deGrom, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kauffman Stadium by a final score of 5-4. deGrom went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Austin Adams came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Jhoan Duran was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 22 save opportunities.
Kansas City took a 5-4 lead on Kyle Manzardo's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Manzardo hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Houston pitcher Avery Weems visibly frustrated.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Manzardo, "and then get after it again."
Kansas City is now 32-38, Houston 41-30.
