Baltimore got a big-time effort from pitcher Nestor Cortes, but it wasn't enough to keep the Tampa Bay Rays from winning the game, 5-4. Cortes threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Tampa Bay reliever Dennis Santana picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Josh Sborz was saddled with the loss. Tampa Bay is now 25-48, Baltimore 34-39.

Tampa Bay got a knockout punch from Jake Bauers. The first baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"It's what good teams do, find a way to win," said Bauers.
