Giants 2-1 Winners Versus Cleveland
|
The Cleveland Guardians got a sterling performance from pitcher Jon Gray, but the San Francisco Giants still prevailed, 2-1. Gray threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. The winner in relief was Justin Topa. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Ryan Pressly was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 19 save opportunities.
The Giants got a big at-bat from right fielder Sal Frelick. For the game, Frelick went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 11th double of the season gave San Francisco a 2-1 lead.
"Tough loss," said Cleveland manager Paul B. "But we'll learn from it."
San Francisco has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
