Red Sox Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The Boston Red Sox took Oakland pitcher Yusei Kikuchi's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Oakland Coliseum. The final score had Boston getting past the Athletics, 2-1. Kikuchi went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 9. The winner was Jared Koenig in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Reed Garrett took the loss. Alexis Diaz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 17 save opportunities.
Boston needed the clutch hitting of Jorge Polanco to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-1. For the game, Polanco had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Oakland manager Brad P, "let me know."
The Red Sox improved their record to 40-42 with the win over Oakland.
