Washington Picks Up Another L
|
Petco Park was the site of a tense game between the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres.
San Diego second baseman Nico Hoerner contributed significantly to his team's 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals. Hoerner, who is tied for 9th in the NL in stolen bases with 19, went 4 for 4 with no runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Padres. San Diego reliever Ryan Walker picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Drew Smyly took the loss. Tanner Scott got the save, his 2nd in 3 chances.
The Nationals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Padres going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old third baseman Zach Neto came to the plate. Neto hit a 2-run double on a 3-1 cutter from Washington hurler Drew Smyly. It was Neto's 19th double of the year.
"We busted our tails," said Washington manager Shane S. "But we came up short."
The losing skid has reached 6 games for Washington.
