Mets Sneak Past Yankees, 2-1
|
In a tight contest between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees, Jon Gray was the determining factor. The New York right-hander sparkled in his team's 2-1 win. Caleb Ferguson, 2-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. New York has now lost 4 straight.
The Mets got a clutch hit from center fielder Myles Straw. In the bottom of the 11th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Mets.
During his postgame press conference, Mets manager Craig K told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
