In a low-scoring contest, Washington pitcher John Means was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 2-1 win. The win belonged to Griffin Jax in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Julian Merryweather took the loss for Detroit. The Nationals now have a record of 44-44 with the win over Detroit.

The decisive blow was delivered by Jonathan Aranda in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 33-year old right-handed pitcher Julian Merryweather to win the game for Washington. The home crowd went nuts.

"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Detroit skipper Chris C.
