Athletics Win Squeaker, 5-4, Over Blue Jays
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4, at Rogers Centre. Leading the charge for Oakland was first baseman Colt Keith. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Clay Holmes, credited with the win in relief, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. Robert Stephenson finished the game for Oakland and earned his 13th save.
Had Keith not come through in the top of the tenth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Keith hit a run-scoring single. The Athletics took the lead, 5-4, and never looked back.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Brad P.
The win elevated the Athletics to 49-39.
