Arizona Absorbs 7-5 Loss to Kansas City
|
Getting a good performance from designated hitter Kyle Manzardo, the Kansas City Royals defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-5. Manzardo hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Royals. Miles Mikolas, the winner, goes to 2-2. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts over 5.1 innings. The save went to Jhoan Duran, his 25th this season.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Daulton Varsho to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Manzardo.
The Royals now own a record of 42-49.
