Cardinals 7-6 Victors Over Washington
The St. Louis Cardinals withstood an impressive performance by Washington right fielder Wilyer Abreu to defeat the Nationals, 7-6, at Busch Stadium. Abreu went 1 for 3 with a triple and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. By defeating Washington, the last-place Cardinals improved to 32-61.

St. Louis took a 7-6 lead on Keston Hiura's 10th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Hiura hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Washington pitcher Michael Lorenzen visibly frustrated.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Hiura told a St. Louis Daily reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
