Padres Suffer 7-5 Home Defeat
|
The inspired effort of San Diego third baseman Edmundo Sosa was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-5, to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Sosa was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Eury Perez got the win, improving to 7-7. He held the Padres to 5 runs on 5 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3. With the win over San Diego, the Diamondbacks improved to 57-37.
Isaac Paredes had a big 2-run home run for the Diamondbacks in the top of the fifth inning. With Arizona leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a curveball from Chris Paddack, who finished 4th in the NL in innings pitched with 207.2 in 2022, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 22nd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Diamondbacks ahead, 4-1.
"I still think this team can play even better," Paredes told the Arizona Bulletin.
