Lance McCullers Jr. pitched a gem to lead Washington to victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-1. The winning pitcher was McCullers Jr., now 10-4. He tossed 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 3. The setback makes St. Louis 32-62.

Mike Tauchman had a big 2-run home run for the Nationals in the top of the first inning. With Washington leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from 36-year old left-handed pitcher James Paxton and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Nationals on top, 3-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," McCullers Jr. told the Washington Daily News.
