Athletics Beaten By Mets, 3-2
|
The New York Mets topped the Oakland Athletics, 3-2, in National League action at Citi Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of New York pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long. Gipson-Long, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The first-place Athletics have dropped 4 straight games.
Connor Norby had a big solo home run for the Mets in the bottom of the sixth inning. With New York leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Yusei Kikuchi, who is tied for 4th in the AL with a 10.9 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 3-1.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Gipson-Long.
