Phillies Score Late to Nip Red Sox, 3-2

The Philadelphia Phillies faced a tough opponent in Boston pitcher Lucas Giolito, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Citizens Bank Park by a final score of 3-2. Giolito went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Philadelphia reliever Caleb Thielbar picked up the win, upping his record to 7-0. Jimmy Herget absorbed the loss. Justin Martinez recorded the save, making him 29 for 34.
Pete Alonso, who finished 2nd in the NL in runs with 109 in 2021, chipped in a 2-run home run for Philadelphia in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
Alonso said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The winning continues for Philadelphia, with the latest triumph making it 7 straight.
