Reds Get Clutch Win, 5-4
|
Nationals Park was the site of a competitive game between the Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds.
Cincinnati starter Andrew Heaney pitched well against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 5-4. Paul Sewald, who finished 5th in the AL in saves with 25 in 2022, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Griffin Jax. Felix Bautista was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 21 of 24 save opportunities.
Cincinnati used a timely hit from Jesus Sanchez to get the win. The left fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Reds ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Sanchez.
Cincinnati is 48-54 and Washington, with the loss, 51-51.
