The Pittsburgh Pirates and Arizona Diamondbacks put on a pitchers' duel.

Pittsburgh got a strong outing from Reid Detmers as the Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks, 1-0, at PNC Park. Pierce Johnson earned his 16th save in 21 chances.

Anthony Volpe drove in one run for Pittsburgh. The 24-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Eury Perez. It was his 55th RBI of the season.

"We take it day by day here," said Volpe, "and today was a good one for us."

The third-place Pirates have won 5 consecutive games.
