The Cleveland Guardians weathered an outstanding game by Kansas City shortstop Willy Adames to topple the Royals, 9-5. Adames went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Cleveland reliever Joel Payamps snagged the win, upping his record to 5-3. Jonathan Cannon shouldered the loss. Enyel De Los Santos was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 16 save opportunities.

Cleveland used a clutch at-bat from Mickey Moniak to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the third inning to put the Guardians ahead, 7-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"It's nice to deliver when your team's counting on you," said Moniak.

Cleveland now sits at 59-45, while Kansas City falls to 49-55.
