Though he had a stellar game, Francisco Alvarez could not prevent his team, the Chicago White Sox, from losing, 9-4, to the Seattle Mariners. Alvarez was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Spencer Turnbull got credit for the win, improving to 5-6. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits in 5 innings. The loss makes Chicago 54-60.

The Mariners got a big boost from center fielder Riley Greene who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the first inning off White Sox hurler Zac Gallen. It was his 45th walk of the season and put Seattle on top, 1-0.

In postgame comments to the Seattle Observer, Greene said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
