Nationals Pull Out Late-Game Win, 3-2
|
The Washington Nationals, despite a fine performance by Kansas City pitcher Alek Manoah, grabbed a 3-2 win at Kauffman Stadium. Manoah allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. Washington reliever Anthony Banda picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Cody Poteet took the loss. Griffin Jax got the save, his 22nd in 23 chances.
Jose Ramirez came through with a big-time hit for Washington. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Washington manager Shane S praised his team's "energy."
With the win, Washington has a record of 58-62. Kansas City falls to 56-64.
