The Cincinnati Reds did just enough to sneak past the Oakland Athletics, 4-3, at Oakland Coliseum. Cincinnati pitcher Joe Ryan, in particular, had a standout performance. Ryan yielded 2 runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 8-12. Felix Bautista earned his 27th save in 31 chances.
Garrett Mitchell, who finished 5th in the AL in triples with 7 last year, helped out the Cincinnati cause in the top of the third inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the center fielder was 1-4.
"Felt great, felt really good," said Ryan.
Today's win puts Cincinnati at 61-66, while Oakland falls to 71-55.
