New York Downs Boston, 5-2
|
New York left fielder Austin Hays was a significant contributor in his team's 5-2 triumph over the Boston Red Sox. He went 3-4 with a triple and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Yankees. The winner was New York reliever Osvaldo Bido, now 2-5. The loser was Ben Lively. The Yankees improved their record to 60-69 by beating Boston.
Starling Marte had a big run-scoring double for the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Ben Lively and swatted a double to right. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Yankees ahead, 2-0.
"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Marte.
