The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4, at Busch Stadium. The win was due in part to right fielder Mookie Betts, who went 2-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Mark Leiter Jr., credited with the win in relief, is now 2-6. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. St. Louis is now 47-87, while Pittsburgh is 59-75.
Will Brennan chipped in for St. Louis, stroking a crucial run-scoring triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. For the game, the left fielder was 2-4 with a triple.
St. Louis manager Jason B commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
