Cubs Win Squeaker, 8-7, Over Giants
|
The Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants, 8-7, in 10 innings at Oracle Park. Chicago shortstop Danny Mendick had an outstanding performance. He was 1 for 1 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jose Leclerc, now 1-1, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Ryan Thompson notched his 2nd save in 3 chances.
The game was all tied up in the top of the tenth, until Mendick delivered big-time for Chicago, stroking a dramatic solo home run off Max Kranick. The game-changing hit put the Cubs on top, 8-7.
"Feels good to get the job done," Mendick said after the game.
Today's win puts Chicago at 81-53, while San Francisco falls to 71-63.
