Cubs Drop Nationals, 8-2
|
The Chicago Cubs got a good effort from starter Brandon Woodruff in defeating the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. The final score was 8-2. Woodruff got the win, improving to 11-4. He gave up 3 hits and walked 3 over 6 innings. He allowed no runs. The first-place Cubs, at 81-55, lead the National League Central Division by 9½ games.
Chicago used the hitting of Jack Suwinski to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Cubs on top, 3-0. For the game, Suwinski had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Brandon pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said Chicago manager Bryan H.
