Abreu, Nationals Beat Rays, 9-5
|
The Washington Nationals defeated the Tampa Bay Rays, 9-5. Doing his part was right fielder Wilyer Abreu, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The winner was Washington reliever Jakob Junis, now 4-1. The loser was Grant Holmes. The loss makes Tampa Bay 48-87.
Early in the game, catcher Austin Wells had a bases-clearing double for Washington. It was his 22nd double of the season and put the Nationals on top, 3-0.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Wells said. "We did a good job of that today."
