Boston pitcher Lucas Giolito did his part in helping his team beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Jimmy Herget earned his 4th save in 8 tries. Boston goes to 67-71, Pittsburgh to 62-76.

Boston third baseman Brendan Donovan contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 146th hit of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 4-2.

"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Donovan.
