Tigers 3-1 Winners Versus Kansas City
|
The Detroit Tigers converted a terrific effort from starter Luis Castillo into a win over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. The Tigers won the game by a final score of 3-1. Castillo picked up the win for Detroit, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 12-8. The Tigers lead the American League Central Division by 14½ games.
Freddie Freeman had a big solo home run for the Tigers in the top of the fourth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Luis Medina and swatted a home run to left. It was his 17th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tigers ahead, 2-0.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Castillo said.
